Hair that thins as it grows long?

i have naturally thick hair, but everytime i let it grow long (around the middle of my back) it starts to get REALLY thin, and i always end up cutting it back short so it's nice and thick. i don't use a straightener but like 2-3 times a week and sometimes not at all, and i rarely use a blowdryer. any experts or anyone that has the same thing know what's going on w/ my hair?

sometimes hair just stops growing at a certian point. I'm a hairdresser and so long you get your hair cut ever 6-8 weeks your hair shouldn't be getting thinner like that, but a lot of my clients are like that. It's just how hair is. Your hair breaks off at a certian point and it that's what's making your ends look and feel thinner. Just keep up with cuts and protect your hair when you straighten it (I suggest Matrix SleekLook Iron Smoother) It will help protect your hair from the heat.

If you need anything else, just let me know.

That process is only natural. Your hair is bound to be thin as it grows. What you should do is use a good anti-thinning hair product. Try the brand Profectiv. It works well for my breakage and it smells nice.

It's not that your hair is getting thinner. There is two reasons for this. One is that, when your hair is longer, it is being weighed down more, giving you less volume and making it appear thinner. The other reason is that when your hair is cut, the edges are more blunt, making them look thicker. When you let your hair grow, the ends tend to taper a bit, also making it look thinner.
